Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
With stars to fill my dreams
I am a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
Sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
Talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

The Very First Post

This is my very first blog post on my tarot website. I am still researching for ideas to jumpstart my creativity so I thought I would write about ALL of my notebooks. I have a lot of notebooks. I don’t have one tarot journal. I don’t have one book of shadows. I have many. Each one dedicated to some specific aspect.
I was once inspired to purchase, after watching several videos of people, including Benebel Wen, showing off their Books of Shadow, or Book of Methods, a very expensive, very large book to use as my “Book of Methods”.

It’s freaking gorgeous and has amazing paper and smells….so esoteric. I even used several pages and spent a lot of time coming up with a list of topics and researching an art style for cohesion. In the end life got in the way. It’s decorating my bookshelf now. Such a shame.
I have always journaled, since high school but I was never good at making it a dedicated regular practice. I also had a bad habit of abandoning a notebook in favor of another fresh, new one. All of my classes on herbalism, shamanism, tarot, witchcraft suggest journaling. Every one. But I wasn’t good at keeping up with it. But then I got super serious about Tarot as more than an every now and then hobby, and I really wanted to get serious about journaling. Now I have about a dozen journals each with its own specific purpose.
I have a personal journal in which I write about my daily life. I don’t keep up with that as often as I wish I would. But I do write a lengthy entry every few months and I may get into a regular routine of writing a daily entry for a week or two but I get caught up in all the other journaling I do and you know, living life. I have a journal that I log my daily readings in. I have a notebook that I record other readings. These are readings where I am doing a deck interview or asking about something specific, or trying out different spreads.
I have a notebook just for keywords. I try to add to the lists of keywords regularly but it isn’t a huge priority. I have a notebook for creative immersion into the card writings, also not as much a priority that I wish it was. It’s amazing how much life gets in the way. Sigh.
I have a notebook for notes on classes I take here and there and odd bits and notes about tarot outside of the meanings. Interesting things I read or heard on the internet, like techniques or a helpful tip on numerology or astrology or such. I have a notebook dedicated to shamanic journeys and a notebook dedicated to my travel altar. (The Peruvian shamans call their traveling altar a mesa, but I have personalized mine so far as to be nothing like a mesa other that the wrap. I call it a Travelorian for fun.) There is a notebook for herbs and a separate one for formulas. And….. I have a newly dedicated notebook that I started for keeping track of blog ideas, book recommendations I hear about, a list of books I already have and need to read and books I need to go back to and review highlights, classes I might want to take, interesting takes on particular cards I might not have thought of. I even have basic Mead notebooks in my purse in case I think of something when I am away from home.
I should mention my ring binders as well. I have a ring binder for class handouts, printed work books. Another ring binder is just for printed spread collections as well as my own designs. And I have a really special binder that has correspondence reference pages, many of them from Benebel Wen, specific to tarot systems, such as astrological houses, signs, the decan wheel, the tarot/astrological wheels-majors and minors and courts, the tree of life and the ten realms overview, as they apply to Tarot.
I am a bit obsessive. And I use every one of them almost daily. I have a four shelf mobile cart next to my reading station so I always have my notebooks close at hand. It has taken me a long time to gain some semblance of organization AND maintain it. Usually I fail at my attempts to remain organized. My shelves and baskets meant to help just end up over cluttered and pushed aside for another shelf or basket. I have maintained this level of organization for over a year now and that is saying something, considering that my reading station is my massage table that I often must clear for an actual massage client. My husband and youngest son made me a folding table top so I have a hard space to read and write on that hides away in the closet when I need it to. Going from tarot mode to massage mode takes about 7 minutes tops.
Did I mention I am obsessed? And very focused. I spend a lot of time in my space, reading, writing, researching, taking notes, and more notes, and something I just sit in this space, this room with all my magickal accouterments. Every book, deck, Crystal, notebook, is a part of my daily life. Sacred.
Blessed Be.
