I spent the last weeks of 2025 completing my collection of trinkets, charms and bones, as well as cataloging my list of meanings. I also have a new fabulous green onyx bowl to store my items in. Onyx relates to the planet Mercury, a symbol for curiosity and communication. It is a perfect charging bowl for all this loot used in reading communications with spirit.
I have a comprehensive collection of over 300 charms, trinkets and bones covering major themes of life, including protection, transformation, stability, personal drive and navigation. While the majority of them are standard metal charms of various sizes, I have had great fun, finding and collecting these charms or being gifted odd and unique pieces from friends. Some are earings that have lost it’s mate, or jewelry project leftovers. There are shells from the sea and crystals representing achievement, encouragement and challenges and some representing planetary influences. Bones include leg bones from ravens, a bison bone carving of a Raven Mask, coyote toe bones, and assorted deer bones found on my property. (All animal items, including my rabbit fur casting mat, were all ethically sourced or found once the animal no longer had need of them.) I feel I have a pretty complete set of reading bits and bobs, though I would always love to add new and unique treasures to my kit.
I love doing these reading, almost as much as tarot. Almost, not quite, but I am, at the moment fixated, focused and obsessed. So, as one might expect, I read as often as I can. A side effect is that I am finding my mind scanning the environment for tiny little things that I might add to my collection and, in fact, am beggining to ‘read’ the environment itself. It’s as if something in my inner mind has turned on and tuned in and I see signs and patterns everywhere. It is, at times, exhausting and I know I will stop being “always on” once the obsession fades. Perhaps, though, it will be a skill that will stick with me and develope strength over time. After all, this is the whole point, to make lasting connections to spirit and All That Is.
